Degree & Certificate Options
The Health Information Technology Curriculum is designed to provide individuals with the technical knowledge and skills to process, analyze, maintain and report health information data in compliance with legal, accreditation, licensure and certification standards.
A.A.S.
Certificate (High School Students Only)
Course work includes diagnosis and procedure coding/classification systems, privacy and security strategies, health informatics, data analytics and use, revenue cycle management, regulatory compliance and organizational leadership.
Graduates of the AAS program may be eligible to write the national certification exam to become a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). Employment opportunities include hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, nursing homes, health insurance organizations, outpatient clinics, physicians’ offices, hospice and mental health facilities.

Online courses are completed through an online platform (i.e., Moodle, Cengage, etc.) at a time of your choosing within course deadlines.
All coursework is online with the exception of clinical courses for the A.A.S. degree option in which students attend face-to-face clinical rotations at the clinical location they are assigned. The certificate option can be completed entirely online.

Students will use a mock patient record data system (similar to EPIC). Due to the content of the course, students must use either PC or Macintosh products (chromebooks are not compatible with course materials).
Proctored testing requires a computer with a webcam and a microphone.

The Health Information Management accreditor of Davidson-Davie Community College is the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). The College’s accreditation for the associate degree in Health Information Technology has been reaffirmed through 2028-2029.
